I really love toilet paper roll crafts; there are just so many things you can do with an empty cardboard tube! Remember the toilet paper roll treat boxes I made for Valentine’s Day? Well I made another fun toilet paper roll craft for Halloween: little toilet paper roll bats! You can hang them from the ceiling as decor, or fill them with treats for a Halloween party!
These adorable bats are so quick and easy to make! And if you don’t want to recycle a toilet paper roll, you can always use a paper towel roll or a wrapping paper tube and cut it down to size. Any way you do it, it’s still recycling!
DIY Toilet Paper Roll Bats
- 5 minutes (time spent doing stuff)
- 20 minutes (time spent waiting around)
- 25 minutes (total project time)
Tools
Materials
- empty toilet paper roll
- black paint
- black construction paper
- googly eyes
- glue
NOTE: If it weirds you out to recycle an empty toilet paper roll, you can use an empty paper towel roll or wrapping paper tube. Or if you don’t want something used, you can find brand new craft rolls on Amazon!
Instructions
Start by painting the toilet paper roll black. Paint the entire outside, and then stand it on its end and let it dry for a few minutes.
While the paint dries, cut out bat wings from your black paper. Draw them however you want; any general wing shape will work!
Once the paint is dry, fold the toilet paper tube into the “body”. Start by completely flattening the tube.
Then stand the tube up and fold down the top on one side. Crease the fold.
Then fold the other side down and crease the fold.
Repeat these two folds on the other end of the tube.
Then glue the paper wings onto the back of the body.
Add two googly eyes to the front, and you have a fun toilet paper roll bat!
Fill the bats with candy and pass them out at your Halloween party!
Or add a string to the back and hang them from your ceiling! I love to see them “flying” around the chandelier above our dining room table every night!

I used binder paper hole reinforcements for the eyes. Remember those? Mine were so old I had to use a glue stick. But I’m glad I found a use for them!

Haha, that’s a great use for those! I might still have a pack or two around here somewhere… 🙂

what type of paint did you use because i used tempara paint and it looks like i used a highlighter instead of actual paint
Jessi Wohlwend says
I used Americana multi-surface satin acrylic paint; it’s my favorite basic craft paint because it comes in tons of colors and works on pretty much every surface (wood, metal, glass, fabric, plastic, etc.) You can find it Amazon here: http://amzn.to/1NiLejx (affiliate)

Do you happen to have a pattern for the wings?
Jessi Wohlwend says
No, sorry, I just drew them freehand!
