What better way to show your sweetheart how much you care than with a super cute handmade Valentine’s Day pom pom monster?! These cuties only take about ten minutes to make, and they’re just so adorable! Plus they’re a great Valentine’s craft to have the kids help with!
How To Make Pom Pom Monsters
Here’s what you need:
- yarn
- googly eyes
- pipe cleaners
- felt
- scissors
- hot glue
Start by wrapping yarn around your fingers a bunch of times. If you want bigger pom poms, wrap the yarn around three fingers instead of two. Make sure you wrap the yarn about 40-60 times to make sure your pom pom is “poofy” enough when you’re done!
When you’re done wrapping yarn, cut the yarn, leaving a 6″ tail. Carefully slide the yarn off your fingers and tie the tail ends of the yarn around the middle of the loops. Tie it as tight as you can!
Carefully cut all of the loops on either side of the knot you just tied.
Now you have a pom pom! It may look slightly messy and uneven, but you can trim it up with your scissors to make it more circular.
Cut a small heart out of a piece of felt, just slightly smaller than the pom pom itself. Hot glue the heart onto the bottom of the pom pom, leaving the top of the heart sticking out slightly to make “feet”.
Hot glue googly eyes onto the front of the pom pom.
Now it’s time to make the antennae! Cut a pipe cleaner in half. Then fold each piece in half again and twist the two ends together a few times. Then hold the twisted ends while bending the top part of the pipe cleaner into a heart shape.
Add hot glue to the twisted ends of the pipe cleaners and stick them into the top of the pom pom, and you have a Valentine’s Day pom pom monster!
They’re so quick and easy to make, I made three!
Just be careful if you have cats in the house! I left these little monsters unattended for just a few minutes, and this is what happened!

So fun! You can make these in any color for any special day, I was thinking different shades of green n gold pipe cleaners rolled at the end like a coin, magnet on the bottom so your “leprechaun” can hide on any metal surface.

These are SO cute. Can you use tacky glue instead of hot glue? I’d be making them with 3 year olds and hot glue probably wouldn’t be safe to have around.

Yep, tacky glue works great!
