It’s time to start decorating our house for fall, and what better way than with these adorable dryer vent pumpkins! If you happen to have a leftover piece of dryer vent hose, this is the perfect way to recycle it. But even if you don’t have dryer vent hose laying around, it’s worth spending a few bucks at a hardware store; these pumpkins are just too cute!
DIY Dryer Vent Pumpkins
Here’s what you need to make these pumpkins: (affiliate links below for the products I used and recommend)
- flexible dryer vent hose
- spray paint (I used Rustoleum’s Ultra Cover 2x in Real Orange and Navajo White)
- hot glue
- sticks, thick floral wire, faux moss, and green paper for stems and leaves
- wire cutters
- scissors
Start by cutting a section of dryer hose at least 2 feet long. It needs to be long enough that you can bend it fully into a circle, but you want the circle to be tight so there isn’t a large gap in the middle. You can cut the main part of the hose with scissors, then use your wire cutters once you get to the coiled wire.
Bend the dryer hose into a circle and use hot glue to connect the ends. Be careful not to burn your fingers when pressing the two ends together; hot glue is really hot, and the metal hose will conduct that heat!
The next step is to add spray paint! I pushed a dowel through a cardboard box and set the “pumpkin” on the other end of the dowel so I could get at all sides with the spray paint.
Spray light, even coats until your pumpkin is covered. The orange only took two light coats, but I did three with the white to make sure the silver was fully covered.
Once the spray paint is dry, add a small stick in the center to serve as a stem. You can also twist some thick floral wire around the stick to create vine tendrils.
Add a bit of moss around the stem, and use hot glue to attach some paper leaves to the ends of the tendrils.
And your pumpkins are done! Set them on a mantel, or just outside the front door to add a bit of fall cheer to your home!
